Build the Door, Bin and UFO Details

Use the smaller decorations from the images to extend the theme across a door, wheelie bin or doorstep without making the display messy.

Start with this tiny plan

  1. Pick one surface you control: a window, bin, porch, plant pot, doormat-adjacent sign or garden patch.
  2. Write one large line people can understand in three seconds.
  3. Add one silly official-looking label, then make the unofficial joke obvious.
  4. Use removable materials and photograph it without private details.

For the door, repeat the simplest motif: foil stars. Five to nine lightweight stars on flat door panels can echo the window display without blocking handles, locks, bells or the letterbox. Add a short bunting strand only if it stays fully within your doorway.

For the wheelie bin, build decorations as removable panels. A cardboard podium front, foil stars, a ringed planet badge and one bold slogan can turn the bin into a temporary campaign-style decoration for a photo, then lift off before collection day.

For the doorstep, make one small UFO rather than a pile of props. Paper plates or cardboard circles covered in foil create the saucer, clear packaging makes a dome, and a green paper alien becomes the pilot. Keep it stable and away from where people step.

The trick is repetition, not quantity. Stars, planets, rockets, bunting and friendly placards appear again and again in the photos, so choose two or three of those shapes and repeat them across each surface.

What this could look like

  • Nervous beginner: one A4 window sign saying “This window has been democratically upgraded.”
  • Bin owner with 20 minutes: one speech bubble and a shoebox lectern for a wheelie-bin briefing.
  • Garden person: one plant pot, one foil moon, one tiny sign marked “Front Garden Lunar Authority.”
